Derrick Rose donates $1m to program: Bulls star makes significant gesture.
Krzyzewski says Rose getting back to best: Team USA coach pleased with his progress.
Chicago Bulls point guard Derrick Rose has insisted that he is confident that this roster has a championship in them as he looks ahead to his NBA return.
Having played in just 10 games over the past two NBA seasons, the former MVP is aware that he will continue to be quizzed on his knees and it will be up to him to silence the doubters by featuring regularly on the court.
With a decent run-out at the FIBA World Cup in Spain behind him, he will now join his Bulls team-mates for training camp ahead of the new season, and Rose believes that there is a championship on the way for the city of Chicago.
“I try my hardest to stay away from (the predictions),” Rose said.
“But we know we have an opportunity ahead of us. It may not be this year, it may not be the next year or whatever, but I know that we have one (in us). I know I’m going to win a championship soon so I’m not worried about that.”
With Pau Gasol, Nikola Mirotic, Doug McDermott and Aaron Brooks being added to the roster this off-season, there is significant optimism within and around the franchise that they have a deep enough roster to make a genuine push this year.
Combined with the core of the team including Rose, Joakim Noah, Jimmy Butler and Taj Gibson, they look a formidable outfit this season, but ultimately it may come down to whether or not they are capable of stopping LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Coach Tom Thibodeau emphasised the importance of Rose overcoming the mental barriers as well as the physical ones after recovering from such serious injuries. Thibodeau insists that the 25-year-old is a confident individual, and he believes that his ability to play on consecutive nights in Spain was a huge obstacle to overcome.
Nevertheless, he will be cautious with his point guard as he doesn’t want to rush him back over a gruelling season, while Rose is targeting a full season of health first and foremost ahead of any individual awards or accolades, with an NBA championship at the top of his wishlist.
