Knicks’ poor season has led to talk of a move away.
La La Anthony has insisted that her husband, Carmelo, will stay with the New York Knicks despite speculation suggesting he will leave in free agency this summer.
Anthony has previously revealed that he will likely test free agency as although he is under contract through to 2014-15, he can opt out at the end of this season.
Under the collective bargaining agreement, the Knicks can offer him a maximum contract of $129m over five years, while other suitors can offer a maximum of $96m over four years.
La La has dismissed the notion that she will have a big influence on what her husband decides, but believes that he will ultimately opt to stay in New York.
“I definitely think he will stay,” La La Anthony said in an interview with Bravo TV’s “Watch What Happens Live.” “I know that he wants to stay, and I support him wherever he wants to go.
“Listen, I used to live in Denver with him. If I can live in Denver, I can live anywhere. I just want him to be happy.”
However, speculation has resurfaced more recently as the Knicks continue to perform below expectations at 17-27 for the season, with playoff basketball this year not entirely secure.
That in turn has led to rumours that Anthony will take less money in order to join a team more capable of challenging for a championship, something that he recently admits is the only thing that now motivates him.
One of the reported options available is a switch to the Los Angeles Lakers, with Kobe Bryant revealing on Sunday that he will not actively recruit his friend but will be open to giving him advice if he requires it.
Anthony is in his 11th season in the NBA, and has also been paired with a move to the Chicago Bulls who will have the necessary cap space if they go through with their expected move of using the amnesty clause on Carlos Boozer.
