The unsettled Benzema has emerged as a target for the Blues.
Real Madrid forward Karim Benzema’s time in Spain could be coming to an end as Jose Mourinho wants a reunion with the player at Chelsea, reports Portuguese daily A Bola.
Benzema has been out of sorts at the Santiago Bernabeu, despite being the sole out-and-out striker since the sale of Gonzalo Higuain to Napoli.
Los Blancos are looking into the possibility of bringing Luis Suarez to the Spanish capital from Liverpool, whilst the Blues will make the most of this and poach the France international.
Mourinho worked with the attacker for three years whilst in charge at Madrid and helped the Frenchman develop into a world-class goal-scorer.
Four goals in eight matches so far in 2013/14 hasn’t been terrible for Benzema, but head coach Carlo Ancelotti is unsure whether the 25-year-old fits into the Italian’s plans anymore.
The west London club had shown interest in the striker over the summer, but Los Merengues were unwilling to let the player leave until a replacement was found.
In the end Mourinho settled for Samuel Eto’o instead – after also failing to sign Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney – but the Cameroon international is yet to impress since arriving at Stamford Bridge.
Eto’o is only at the club on an initial one-year deal and at 32-years-old is hardly a long-term prospect.
Benzema meanwhile would fit that bill exactly and with Demba Ba and Fernando Torres also not finding much form of late, the Madrid star could become the main man at the Bridge.
