The manager asked Ramos about the chance to come to London.
Returning Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho asked Sergio Ramos if the defender would like to join the Portuguese maestro in west London from Real Madrid, according to El Confidencial.
The 50-year-old broached the idea with Ramos when the coach had accepted a return to Stamford Bridge, but Ramos refused.
Mourinho is thought to have run the same idea past Luka Modric, with the Blues nearly signing the Croatian in the summer of 2012 before the midfielder joined Madrid.
Ramos told the boss that the Spaniard wanted to end the defender’s career at the Santiago Bernabeu and would therefore not make the switch to Stamford Bridge.
However, the fact that Mourinho was considering the idea suggests that the ex-Los Blancos man has doubts over the current crop in the back-four.
So far this season the manager has opted to play John Terry and Gary Cahill as a central defensive partnership, with Branislav Ivanovic operating at right-back.
Despite the fact that Chelsea have rejected approaches from Barcelona for David Luiz, it’s likely that the Brazilian would be the one to be sold.
Luiz is yet to feature under Mourinho, with injury keeping the 26-year-old out up until now, but along with Juan Mata the South American is thought to be two of the club’s better players from last term that the coach is unsure about.
Of the four major new arrivals at the Bridge this summer none are defensive options and the former Inter Milan and Porto boss may be looking into improving that area before the window shuts.
