The manager has sent out a warning to the Blues squad.
Ahead of a busy Christmas schedule Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has sent out a warning to the players at the club.
The month of December is renowned for being jam-packed full of fixtures and the Blues boss says that this time period is ‘only for the brave.’
“It’s a period where I think only the brave can survive because it’s so hard. We go into the Christmas period and the accumulation of matches is so high,” Mourinho was quoted by the Guardian.
“We don’t have a Christmas like the Spanish, Italian and German players. But we have the pleasure of playing a period that’s only for the brave.”
The west London club prepare for their fifth Champions League tie of the season, taking on Swiss champions FC Basel on a high after a good Premier League result at the weekend.
Mourinho’s men were dominant in a 0-3 victory over West Ham United on Saturday and they know that three more points in Switzerland will see them edge ever closer to the last-16.
The top European competition is something of a specialty for Portuguese coach, having won the tournament with both FC Porto and Inter Milan and also reaching three consecutive semi-finals whilst in charge of Real Madrid.
Mourinho could never deliver the trophy to the Bridge however, with owner Roman Ambramovich having to wait until 2012 before the club lifted the Russian’s desired crown.
Being successful in Europe would cap off a brilliant period with the side for the 50-year-old and would mark the manager as a true club legend.
