The Dolphins do not plan to bench QB Ryan Tannehill this week.
Although NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported Monday there is legitimate talk the Miami Dolphins might bench the struggling Tannehill, it now appears that head coach Joe Philbin will hold off for at least another week.
NFL Media’s Jeff Darlington reported Tuesday that multiple players in the Dolphins’ locker room have been told that Tannehill is indeed scheduled to start Sunday against the Raiders. Those players have also said Tannehill is preparing as if he is the first-team quarterback.
Tannehill has struggled through three weeks and was unable to move the offense in Sunday’s home loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. Philbin said Monday he wanted to have a QB in place by the time the team leaves for London.
Philbin was asked if he felt it necessary to sit down with Tannehill after the coach was publicly noncommittal about his plans.
“I talk to him all the time. So we have multiple conversations,” he said. “So again, I communicate with him frequently. And yeah, any kind of — I don’t usually get into personal conversations that we have.”
