Manchester United are reportedly unsure over signing Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels this summer due to his apparent lack of pace, according to CaughtOffside.
The German international, who has long been regarded by many as one of the world’s best centre-backs after a series of strong displays for club and country in recent years, is still one of Louis van Gaal’s main defensive targets for the summer transfer window.
United have looked unconvincing defensively this term, with the likes of Phil Jones and Chris Smalling highlighted by the Daily Mail as two players who are not currently fulfilling their potential.
Hummels may be an improvement on those two, but United are also said to be considering a move for Athletic Bilbao youngster Aymeric Laporte as well, with the 20-year-old another promising defender who could add something to the squad at Old Trafford.
Still, Laporte would not come cheap, with Athletic said to be keen that United pay his full £30m buy-out clause if they do come calling.
