The Premier League champions are desperate to sign Everton’s Barkley.
Everton ace Ross Barkley has been grabbing the headlines this season with some great performances and now Manchester United are preparing a £50m bid, reports the Manchester Evening News.
If the deal were to go through it would be a club record, as manager David Moyes desperately tries to find some creative midfield talent.
Barkley is still just 20-years-old but has been given a starring role in the Toffees first team by new boss Roberto Martinez and has netted three goals already this term.
Moyes also knows the youngster well having handed the attacking midfielder his debut back in 2011 when the Scot was in charge at Goodison Park.
Since then however Barkley’s reputation has rocketed and the starlet has earned three caps for the England national team and is expected to be part of the 23-man squad for next summer’s World Cup.
Martinez has already stated that not even a bid in the region of the world record £85.3m paid for Gareth Bale would convince the Spaniard to sell though and relations between the two clubs are at a low currently.
This is because United made some very clumsy attempts to land both Leighton Baines and Marouane Fellaini in the summer with a £28m joint bid.
In the end only the Belgian arrived and it cost the English champions £27.5m just for the midfielder – with Fellaini struggling to adjust to life at Old Trafford since.
Yet Moyes wants new creative talent and with chief executive Ed Woodward having much to prove in the transfer market, signing someone such as Barkley could well appease the fans.
