The Red Devils are finally willing to bid high for the Belgian.
Everton star Marouane Fellaini has been a target for Manchester United all summer, ever since former Toffees boss David Moyes took over the reigns at Old Trafford from Sir Alex Ferguson.
An initial double bid from the Premier League champions – for Leighton Baines as well – was £28m and valued Fellaini at £16m; something the Merseyside club rejected and called ‘derisory and insulting.’
Now United are preparing to take a different approach and will come back with an improved £25m bid for just Fellaini – it’s unknown if the club are going to pursue with Baines, according to the Mirror.
The deal will be an initial £20m payment and then further extras that amount to £5m, as Moyes aims to improve the Red Devils’ midfield following the retirement of Paul Scholes.
Previous offers for Barcelona duo Thiago Alcantara and Cesc Fabregas have been rejected and Thiago eventually joined Bayern Munich, whilst Fabregas opted to stay at the Nou Camp.
As a result options have become more and more limited for the English champions and now Fellaini is beginning to look like the only realistic choice.
The 25-year-old has developed into a top-class box-to-box midfielder under the guidance of Moyes at Goodison Park, since signing for the club for a record £15m in 2008.
Last season the Belgium international was the side’s top-scorer, having changed the player’s game from a defensive minded player into more of a No.10 role.
This new offer from United is likely to be a whole lot more tempting to Everton, particularly as the club are more keen to hold onto Baines than Fellaini.
