The versatile Kenyan, who can operate either as a defensive midfield player or who is equally comfortable slipping into the back four as a centre half, has enjoyed an outstanding season for Neil Lennon’s side, playing a key role as the Glasgow giants have qualified for the knockout stages of the Champions League, including securing a famous victory over Liga giants Barcelona along the way.
In fact it was at that match at Celtic Park, which the home side won 2-1, that United manager Sir Alex Ferguson was in attendance, scouting the 6ft 2in player himself, and he would not have left disappointed as Wanyama turned in a man-of-the-match display against the Catalans, including scoring with a towering far-post header.
And, it is expected that the Red Devils will make a move for the 21-year-old at the end of this season, with a figure in the region of £10 million expected to be enough to convince the Scottish Premier League champions to part company with Wanyama, who they bought from Belgian outfit Beerschot for just £900,000 two years ago.
