David Moyes has earmarked a move for one of Lucho Gonzalez, Blaise Matuidi or Kevin Strootman…
With the January transfer window fast approaching, Manchester United boss David Moyes has drawn up a list of potential centre-midfield targets.
He will prioritise moves for Roma’s Kevin Strootman and PSG’s Blaise Matuidi, according to the Express, but could also move for Porto’s Argentine veteran Lucho Gonzalez reports the same paper.
Strootman would no doubt the most expensive of the three, but also the transfer that would most excite the Old Trafford faithful. The young Dutchman only arrived at Roma in the summer, and has been a key reason the Italian side has started the season so fantastically. The 23-year-old has scored three and assisted five, and would likely command a fee of at least £20m.
Matuidi will likely be heading the World Cup with France next summer, but could be considerably cheaper because he has yet to sign a new contract at Le Parque de Princes. He is less creative than Strootman, but would provide United’s midfield with a real combative, battling influence.
Gonzalez on the other hand, is coming to the end of an impressive career in European football. At 32-years-old, he would by no means be a long-term solution for David Moyes, but could provide another technically capable option with Michael Carrick injured, and Marouane Fellaini struggling to adapt to United’s style.
