Marouane Fellaini has played his last game for Everton…
Manchester United’s summer-long pursuit of Everton’s Belgian powerhouse midfielder Marouane Fellaini looks like it will end in success, after the Toffees asked to borrow England Under-21 star Jesse Lindgard in return, reports the Mirror.
United have given in to Everton’s steep demands and will pay a whopping £36m for Fellaini, who had a release clause earlier in the summer which has now expired, that allowed him to move for only £23m.
The capture of Fellaini will end a drawn out saga in which United have targeted countless top-notch centre-midfielders, including Spanish trio Thiago, Cesc Fabregas and Ander Herrera.
Fellaini played in Everton’s disappointing 0-0 draw with Cardiff, in what will turn out to be his farewell fixture at Goodison Park.
The Toffees have asked to take England Under-21 international Jesse Lindgard on loan for the season in return. The youngster impressed during pre-season, but David Moyes will be happy to lend Everton the talented attacker if it means he can hurry along a deal for the crazy-haired 25-year-old.
Everton boss Martinez is resigned to losing Fellaini, and admits the situation is no longer in his control.
“They are top players for Everton and you always want to keep them – but you are not always in control of what is going to happen,” he said on Saturday following his side’s weekend fixture.
