Japanese playmaker set to be dropped for England winger…
Manchester United predicted line-up v Manchester City:
Defence:
With Rafael and Phil Jones likely to miss out with injury, Chris Smalling will deputise at right-back, as he did during United’s 4-2 midweek Champions League win over Bayer Leverkusen. Stalwarts Rio Ferdinand, Nemanja Vidic and David De Gea will all start, with manager David Moyes desperate to win his first ever Manchester derby.
Midfield:
New £27m signing Maraoune Fellaini will make his first start for Premier League side Manchester United alongside midfield metronome Michael Carrick. Tom Cleverley, Ryan Giggs and Anderson will likely start from bench, available to shore up the game with possession football if United take an early lead.
Attack:
Shinji Kagawa will likely be replaced by Ashley Young for the crucial derby clash, although the Japanese performed well midweek at Old Trafford. Moyes will probably prefer the dynamism and directness of Young however, with the rest of that attacking players remaining unchanged.
Wayne Rooney will support Robin Van Persie, with the hard-working Antonio Valencia starting from the right. All three performed fantastically in midweek, and Moyes will be relying on them to score the goals this afternoon.
