Surely not…? David Moyes will test Chelsea’s resolve with a move for David Luiz…
Manchester United boss David Moyes is plotting an outrageous £30m bid for Chelsea’s 26-year-old Brazilian centre-half David Luiz, reports the Mirror.
Following Chelsea’s public pursuit of United forward Rooney all summer, the Premier League champions are all set to give Jose Mourinho’s noisy Londoners a taste of their own medicine.
Due to first-choice United pairing Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic being prone to injury – Moyes has earmarked Luiz as a fantastic option.
The two sides played out a drab 0-0 draw at Old Trafford on Monday evening, and both are expected to be active in the transfer market before it slams shut at the end of the month.
Chelsea would be extremely unlikely to want to sell the Brazilian stopper, who proved himself to be one of the best in the world during Brazil’s classy Confederations Cup victory earlier in the summer.
Luiz’s performances made him a prime target for La Liga champions Barcelona, but Chelsea rejected an enormous offer, with Portuguese boss Mourinho promising that the player would not be sold.
If the Blues rejected the Catalan giants offer, it seems completely implausible that they would then sell to the team that is arguably their biggest rival for the Premier League title.
With this in mind, United’s biggest hope of getting Luiz would lie in whether they let Rooney join Chelsea or not. This swap-deal would reluctantly suit both parties, although neither club would want to actively strengthen the other.
