Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville has insisted that Chelsea’s poor form so far this season can no longer be considered a blip.
The Sky Sports pundit was speaking on Monday Night Football, and believes that the reigning Premier League champions need to snap out of their slump sooner rather than later if they harbour realistic ambitions of winning back-to-back league titles.
However, he is still unsure as to how that materialises as he sympathised with the players to an extent in terms of needing a boost from their manager to be motivated to go on and win another title.
Chelsea sit in 14th place in the Premier League having won just two of their seven games so far this season, and the Blues missed a perfect opportunity to close the gap on their rivals over the weekend.
With Manchester City falling to a 4-1 defeat to Tottenham in the Saturday lunchtime kickoff, Jose Mourinho’s men could only manage a 2-2 draw with Newcastle in the evening game.
As a result, with Manchester United now topping the table, the Blues are still eight points adrift of first place and are still struggling to show that they will be able to successfully defend their crown this year.
