Shares in the Premier League side where made available last August at $14 each and while they initially performed poorly, the club have seen their valuation rocket in recent days and are now sitting around $17 mark.
That increase has increased the club’s enterprise value, worked out by figuring out the equity of the club plus the debt, to $3.3 billion. That’s over $1 billion more than the second most valuable sporting outfit in the world, the Dallas Cowboys, who are valued at $2.1 billion.
Part of the reason the club has enjoyed the increase in its value is the successful exploitation of commercial ventures including with Japan’s Kansai and the China Construction Bank.
The next most valuable football club is Real Madrid, who came in at a relatively meagre $1.8 billion.
Arsenal are the second most valuable Premier League side but they are dwarfed by United, having a value of only $1.2 billion.
