Manchester City and Man Utd consider bids for FC Barcelona playmaker should contract wrangle continue.
Manchester City and local rivals Man Utd are monitoring the contract situation of FC Barcelona star Andres Iniesta and could attempt to sign the Spain international according to the Daily Express.
The 29 year-old has won everything there is to win with Barca, having come through La Masia academy, with six league titles, three UEFA Champions League trophies, and two each of the Copa del Rey, Supercopa de Espana and FIFA Club World Cup.
Still, though his team-mate Victor Valdes is seeking a new challenge abroad to finish his career, Iniesta appears set on becoming an FC Barcelona legend.
“You have to be where you want to be, and Barca is the place for me,” said Iniesta.
“The club knows that and wants me to stay, so I hope and expect to spend the years I have left playing there.”
Although both Manchester United and Man City would be foolish to fail to act should a player of Andres Iniesta’s calibre come onto the transfer market, this deal looks doomed to failure as both player and club intend to extend the contract.
Like in the summer with failed attempts to sign Cesc Fabregas, Thiago Alcantara and Ander Herrera, Manchester United boss David Moyes looks set to again have to wait to make his mark on the side with a true landmark transfer deal.
