Goalkeeper and defence
Between the sticks both are fairly strong, with David de Gea being one of the very few positives in Moyes’ first season in charge at the Theatre of Dreams.
However, the Spaniard’s opposite number is someone many consider to know be the best stopper in the world – Manuel Neuer – due to Gianluigi Buffon’s advancing years and Iker Casillas’ inability to get in the Real Madrid side.
Bayern also have by far the best defensive record in Germany this term and have conceded just 16 league goals all season – although have been leakier in Europe.
In captain Philipp Lahm they have one of the best full-backs in history (although the 30-year-old is also known to play in defensive midfield under Guardiola) and Dante and David Alaba are also world-class.
However, Manchester City reject Jerome Boateng could be said to be something of a weak link at the back – as shown against the Gunners – and whilst Javi Martinez can fill in is not a natural centre-back.
As for United, their defence has been relatively poor all year, with Rio Ferdinand past it, Rafael and Chris Smalling erratic and Phil Jones seemingly not knowing where his best position is.
Captain Nemanja Vidic is generally a reliable option and Patrice Evra has been good; although both are almost certain to leave the club in the summer.
Winners: Bayern.
