It’s the final day of the 2013/14 Premier League season and Manchester City will be crowned champions if they can record at least a draw against West Ham United.
Following Liverpool’s draw with Crystal Palace last Monday and then City’s subsequent victory over Aston Villa on Wednesday, the superior goal difference of Manuel Pellegrini’s side means they will win the title for the second time in three years with a point against the Hammers.
However, if they lose to West Ham at the Etihad Stadium then the Reds can sneak ahead of them if they beat Newcastle United at Anfield.
Therefore whilst the Citizens are very much the favourites the outcome is by no means a formality and Pellegrini will be happy to have top-scorer Sergio Aguero fit as a result.
The Argentine missed the midweek win over Villa with a groin injury and has spent long periods on the sidelines this season, but will be fit for this crucial tie and will be hoping to make as big an impression as when the 25-year-old scored the goal that won them the title two years ago.
Midfielder Fernandinho is also fit enough to start the match.
City have already beaten West Ham twice this term – including a 6-0 drubbing in the League Cup – have lost just once at home this campaign.
The visitors meanwhile have lost four of their last five and have kept just one clean-sheet in their last 11 outings in the league, but have no new injury concerns with Marco Boriello the only absentee.
