Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur will both be desperate for victory as Premier League football returns to the Etihad Stadium on Sunday.
After significant summer investment, the duo were tipped for a strong season but currently find themselves off the pace in the Premier League title race, with City eighth, six points behind leaders Arsenal, and Spurs one place and one point above Manuel Pellegrini’s side.
Both will be looking to bounce back from damaging defeats before the international break, with City losing against lowly Sunderland and Spurs frustrated at home by Newcastle.
City will be without captain Vincent Kompany and influential playmaker David Silva, while Spurs will be missing Christian Eriksen, who picked up an ankle injury on international duty.
Pellegrini is likely to continue with the prolific partnership of Alvaro Negredo and Sergio Aguero and Martin Demichelis could again start.
Andre Villas-Boas is facing increasing pressure to reintroduce striker Emmanuel Adebayor but is set to stick with Roberto Soldado up front.
The match will be live on Sky Sports with coverage starting at 12:30pm. If you don’t have a Sky subscription why not grab yourself a NOW TV Sky Sports Day Pass – Pay As You Go access to all 6 Sky Sports channels for the first time ever!
