It’s the first chance this season for an English side to win a major trophy as Manchester City and Sunderland go head-to-head in the Capital One Cup final.
The Black Cats’ improved year under Gus Poyet continues as they edge away from the relegation zone in the Premier League and have been good in the domestic cups.
To get to this stage Poyet’s team have had to knock out both Chelsea and Manchester United and their fans will be looking for another upset in the capital.
However, when coming up against Manuel Pellegrini’s City side in good form, that will be no mean feat especially as the Chilean will be looking to make his mark on English football straight away with some silverware.
The Citizens will also be boosted by the fact that top-scorer Sergio Aguero could well return to the starting XI after missing the last five games with a hamstring injury.
Stevan Joevtic and Mateja Nastasic are both ruled out, but Pellegrini does have joint highest scorers in this competition Alvaro Negredo and Edin Dzeko to call upon as well.
For Sunderland midfielder Liam Bridcutt is cut-tied having already played in the competition this term with previous side Brighton and Hove Albion.
Striker Connor Wickham has just gone on-loan to Leeds United and therefore will be unavailable, whilst goalkeeper Keiren Westwood is out with a shoulder injury.
It will however be a great chance for ex-City player Adam Johnson to get one over on his former employers.
