The 2012 champions are prepared to treble Januzaj’s wages.
The future of Manchester United youngster Adnan Januzaj is in the balance as Manchester City enter the race for the talented Belgian, reports the Metro.
Red Devils manager David Moyes is keen for the 18-year-old to sign a new deal at Old Trafford, but the Citizens aim to turn the teenager’s head with a huge £45,000-a-week deal.
The offer from City would treble what Januzaj currently earns with United and signals just how highly the 2012 Premier League champions rate the starlet.
Moyes promoted the winger to the first team this summer and so far the forward has made four appearances in all competitions – including during Saturday’s disappointing home defeat to West Bromwich Albion.
Despite the poor result in that game, Januzaj showed a lot of confidence and the boss will be hoping that the chances the teenager is getting in for the English champions will convince the youngster to stay.
City have gained a reputation since their middle eastern takeover of not offering opportunities to young players who need to develop; instead opting for players who offer instant success.
This tactic may deter Januazj from joining, as the attacker can see other promising talent such as John Guidetti and Denis Suarez who were never given a decent chance at the Etihad Stadium.
However, with Manuel Pellegrini now in charge the club may be adopting new methods and the five-year contract the side want to offer the United man proves their seriousness.
