Aguero believes City can take both competitions by storm.
Manchester City’s club record signing Sergio Aguero has expressed the belief that under new manager Manuel Pellegrini the side can win the Premier League and Champions League.
The striker netted City’s opening goal in the 4-0 win over Newcastle United in the club’s first league match of the season, but couldn’t stop the Citizens slipping to a surprising 3-2 defeat to Cardiff City in the second.
Yet despite the 2012 English champions having crashed out of Europe’s biggest competition two seasons running, Aguero believes 2013/14 can be different.
“We must win a trophy — and there’s none more important than the Premier League,” the Argentina international was quoted in the Mirror.
“We definitely have a team that can win the title, and why not the Champions League, too?
“Pellegrini’s tactics are different. I can’t give them away too much just yet, but you’ll see.”
The Chilean faces a tough task to bring the league title to Eastlands this year, what with Manchester United being the holders and Chelsea once again under the guidance of talismanic boss Jose Mourinho.
Yet Pellegrini is an experienced and calm coach who has taken sides such as Villarreal and Malaga to Champions League semi and quarter finals respectively, despite modest budgets and little history in the competition.
The 59-year-old has also managed at the very top with Real Madrid and should have all the required past experience to be able to guide City to success – although only time will tell, especially with a setback such as the Cardiff loss.
