Gael Clichy will miss out with injury, with Aleksandar Kolarov expected to deputise at left-back. Club captain Vincent Kompany will partner young centre-half Matija Nastasic in the middle, with experienced Argentine right-back Pablo Zabaleta starting from the right. Micah Richards is available, but will likely start the match from the bench.
Midfield:
Big summer signing Fernandinho will start his first Manchester derby alongside the brilliant Ivorian powerhouse Yaya Toure. The giant midfielder has scored three goals form outside the area already this season, and his battle with United’s Fellaini will be crucial to the outcome of the match.
Attack:
Sergio Aguero will play off Bosnian forward Edin Dzeko up top, with new signing Alvaro Negredo starting from the bench. Out wide, ultra-talented Spanish playmaker David Silva should return from injury, and will drift between the lines in between the midfield and the forward line. If he isn’t fully fit, Samir Nasri or even Stevan Jovetic could start from the left instead.
Summer signing Jesus Navas will inject the pace and directness City often lacked last season from the right, and potentially provide Dzeko and Aguero with scoring chances in his first derby match.
