The 34-year-old Reds skipper is said to be considering his future at Anfield after spending his entire career with his boyhood club, with his contract set to expire in the summer.
City controversially signed Chelsea legend Frank Lampard on loan from New York City FC this season, and could make a similar approach for Gerrard if he is available.
Pellegrini confirmed his interest, saying: “I don’t ever rate players on their age. It depends on the money they cost and the number of years they can play for.
“Like Frank Lampard, Steven Gerrard is a top player and he can continue at a high level for a couple more years.”
