Manchester United are said to be stepping up their interest in Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho, according to the Daily Telegraph.
The Portuguese international, 22, is regarded as one of the most promising young midfielders in Europe at the moment, and his fine form has attracted strong interest from both Arsenal and Chelsea this summer.
Valued at around £24m, Sporting are not ready to let Carvalho go easily, but they now face further interest in his signature from United manager Louis van Gaal as he continues to search for new signings in midfield.
The Red Devils have been linked with a host of big names in that position this summer, but have so far failed in their efforts to land the likes of Arturo Vidal and Fredy Guarin.
Carvalho could join a new-look squad at Old Trafford this season, joining other new signings Luke Shaw, Ander Herrera, Angel Di Maria and former Lisbon team-mate Marcos Rojo in Manchester.
