Sir Alex Ferguson wants German stay at Old Trafford.
MANCHESTER UNITED could be ready to make a move for Real Madrid ’s Mesut Ozil in January.
Ozil has been admired by Sir Alex Ferguson, who is looking for a creative spark to succeed midfield maestro Paul Scholes when
United appear to be frontrunners for the Germany international, who has fallen out of favour at the Bernabeu.
But the latest news of a bust-up with Real’s boss Jose Mourinho, has fuelled further speculation that Ozil’s departure is imminent.
Mesut Ozil and Jose Mourinho reportedly have a strained relationship, dating back to a bust-up between the duo in late September.
But suggestions that the German has fallen out of favour at the Bernabeu may be misleading, given the 24-year-old has started 18 of the Real’s 26 games this season.
Ozil, however, has had less of an impact than in the previous two seasons when he was the club’s chief creative presence in the middle of the park.
Real Madrid have fallen some way off the pace in the La Liga title race but are not yet entirely out of the running.
More embarrassing than being behind arch rivals Barcelona, is the fact that city neighbours Atletico are five points clear of Mourinho’s men after a blistering start from the Vicente Calderon outfit.
Man United, meanwhile, need some added creativity to boost a midfield that is a tad brittle and lacking in ideas.
Paul Scholes is not the attacking force he once was, while Michael Carrick is not renowned for his goal-scoring exploits.
Anderson, though much improved, has always struggled for goals and assists, despite his obvious contribution the to team.
Interest in a playmaker of Ozil’s quality is therefore understandable but it would still be a shock if Sir Alex Ferguson felt he had a genuine chance of luring Ozil away from the Spanish giants anytime soon.
