The news will surely now push his £5 million loan move into motion as the hours tick away down to 11pm.
The England international has been deemed surplus to requirements at Old Trafford this season with The Red Devils prepared to offload the 23-year-old in the coming hours.
A number of Premier League clubs – including Spurs’ arch rivals Arsenal – are said to be keen on prizing the England international away from Old Trafford, but reports are suggesting that the striker wants to ply his trade at White Heart Lane this coming season.
However, it is still unsure as to whether the player will finalise his move to London before the deadline as his £105,000 per week wages could hold the deal up.
Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino is thought to be keen on recruiting Welbeck to reinforce his attacking options and to provide competition for Emmanuel Adebayor and Harry Kane.
