Manchester City made an improved offer for Liverpool starlet Raheem Sterling on Wednesday, upping their bid from £30m from £40m.
Sterling is widely expected to leave Anfield this summer, but his destination remains unclear.
It was originally thought that Arsenal or Chelsea were his most likely buyers, with Sterling keen to move to London, where he was raised.
However, City are the club showing the most intent in the Sterling transfer race and, as a result, they have leapfrogged the Gunners and Jose Mourinho’s champions in the betting.
Real Madrid remain there or thereabouts.
