The Premier League champions supposedly have their eye on Everton starlet Ross Barkley as a long-term solution to fill that midfield gap, though Chelsea are also known to be tracking the 20-year-old.
Juventus’ highly-rated French midfielder Paul Pogba, 21, is also high on their agenda, though they could face competition from both Chelsea and Arsenal for his signature.
Toure’s poor form this season may be signalling the end of his career at the Etihad Stadium, just months after he almost single-handedly guided the club to the Premier League and Capital One Cup double last term with 24 goals from midfield.
