Mats Hummels – Borussia Dortmund
The German is going to prove very difficult to persuade to join this summer, with his club desperate to keep hold of him. In terms of replacements who are already comparable to Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic during the departing pair’s peak – Hummels is one of the few good enough in world football. His arrival would strengthen the defence massively, although United could target Atletico’s Miranda instead.
