Former players likely to remain with United.
Incoming Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has confirmed that he intends to keep Paul Scholes and Phil Neville at Old Trafford.
Van Gaal was introduced to the media on Thursday afternoon, when he held his first press conference since starting his new job.
Former full-back Neville, 37, joined the coaching staff at Old Trafford last summer and worked under David Moyes and caretaker boss Ryan Giggs.
Ex goalscoring midfielder Scholes, 39, was drafted in to assist Giggs in a coaching capacity in April.
Van Gaal has already brought two new coaches to United – Albert Stuivenberg and Marcel Bout – but he is keen to find roles for Neville and Scholes.
The Mirror quotes Van Gaal as saying: “Paul Scholes, we will find a role for him, and Phil Neville – that’s what we want.”
Neville, younger brother of former captain Gary, made 389 first-team appearances for United as a player between 1994 and 2005.
He won six Premier League titles, three FA Cups, one Champions League and one Intercontinental Cup with the Red Devils.
Scholes scored 155 goals in 720 games for United, winning 11 Premier Leagues, three FA Cups, two League Cups, two Champions Leagues, one Intercontinental Cup and one FIFA Club World Cup.
