It’s a clash between two giants of the Western Conference as the Los Angeles Clippers head to the Chesapeake Energy Arena to face the Oklahoma City Thunder.
With Kevin Durant continuing to light up the league with his MVP-level of play, the Thunder have emerged as the favourites to claim the top seed in the Western Conference, but with their defeat to the Miami Heat this week following Russell Westbrook’s return, there are still a few issues that need addressing.
Oklahoma City (43-13) suffered their worst loss in nearly three years on Thursday, and they will look to bounce back immediately against a Clippers team hoping to avoid their first three-game losing streak of the season.
Kendrick Perkins is likely to miss out with a strained left groin, and it is expected that rookie Steven Adams will take his place in the starting line-up as the Thunder look to improve on a 15-1 home record against their Western Conference rivals.
Meanwhile, the Clippers will expect point guard Chris Paul to recover from a sprained thumb to start, and they will be hoping to put another dent in the Thunder’s season while improving on their own season record of 37-20.
These two have split their meetings this season with each franchise winning at home, and while Durant will undoubtedly be leading the way for the hosts again on Sunday, Blake Griffin will look to be his equal as he continues to have the most productive season of his career thus far.
The 24-year-old raised his game during Paul’s absence, and coach Doc Rivers will be hoping to see him maintain that level of performance now that the Clippers have their influential floor general back.
The Thunder are favourites for this one given their home advantage, but the Clippers have the weapons to cause them problems if they can find their rhythm and find a way to at least restrict Durant.
