Premier League giants Liverpool and Manchester City come face to face in New York later tonight, with both looking to seal progress in the International Champions Cup.
Both teams were victorious in their opening match of the pre-season competition: the Reds beating Olympiakos 1-0 thanks to a single Raheem Sterling goal, while City thrashed AC Milan 5-1.
Last season’s top two in the Premier League are level with Olympiakos on three points in Pool B, with the Greek side having also beaten Milan 3-0.
Tonight’s winner will seal progression to the semi-final stage of the competition, where they will meet Manchester United, Roma, Inter Milan or Real Madrid.
Liverpool played a strong team in their opening game of the competition, fielding new signings Rickie Lambert, Emre Can and Lazar Markovic over the course of 90 minutes.
Adam Lallana’s injury has ruled him out of the Reds entire pre-season campaign, while Dejan Lovren is unlikely to feature until the completion of the club’s US Tour. Divock Origi has already re-signed for Lille on a season-long loan move.
Stevan Jovetic has looked great for the Citizens during the pre-season so far, netting twice against Milan, and he’ll be looking to build on that performance against the Reds.
Other fringe players such as Scott Sinclair, Micah Richards and Jack Rodwell will also be hoping to prove they deserve a place in Manuel Pellegrini’s side.
The match will be live on Sky Sports with coverage starting at 12am. If you don’t have a Sky subscription why not grab yourself a NOW TV Sky Sports Day Pass – Pay As You Go access to all 6 Sky Sports channels for the first time ever!
