Anfield club ready to revive interest in winger.
Barcelona have scuppered Liverpool’s hopes of signing Spanish starlet Cristian Tello by handing him a new deal – but the Reds will be encouraged by his £8m buyout clause.
The Anfield side had been chasing Tello, 21, for the last few months but he will now continue his career in Catalonia.
The winger’s new deal ties him to the Nou Camp club until 2016.
Liverpool may be encouraged by Tello’s new buyout clause though – it is set at £8m.
Cristian Tello’s new contract has give his suitors hope that the young winger can be signed for the right price.
In today’s market, £8m is an absolute snip for a player of Tello’s ability and a price well within Liverpool’s budget, despite the fact that boss Brendan Rodgers is not being backed in the same manner financially as his predecessor Kenny Dalglish.
Tell, 21, is an adaptable attacker who can play on the either flank or as a supporting striker and the youngster could be open to move to a side that is more likely to offer him first team football.
The Spanish under-21 international would adhere to Liverpool’s youthful transfer policy, whilst providing a much-needed boost to the club’s threadbare attacking options.
Tello has made eight starts for Barcelona in all competitions this season, scoring three goals in the process.
