Coutinho is an artist rather than a student of the game it seems…
Liverpool’s 21-year-old Brazilian playmaker Coutinho has claimed he never heard of Manchester United manager David Moyes before joining Liverpool back in January, reports the Mirror.
The mercurial midfielder has formed a fantastic on-field relationship with Daniel Sturridge, and Liverpool’s chances of picking up three points against United in Sunday’s crucial Premier League tie rely on Coutinho playing a blinder.
The Brazilian though, has no doubt wound up United supporters and players by claiming he’d never heard of Moyes before joining Liverpool.
When asked about whether he knew much about the Scottish boss, Coutinho’s answer was an unequivocal, “No.”
He also claimed that as far as he knew, despite the Red Devils’ virtually unrivalled recent success, he couldn’t remember them winning anything of note.
“I don’t remember watching United win any cups,” he said.
“I remember last season they won the league, that’s as far as I know.”
Coutinho is clearly an artist, rather than a student of the game, it seems.
Despite his poor recollection of his rival’s recent success, Coutinho is more than ready for the clash, and is prepared to work especially harsh to make sure his side leave’s Anfield with three points.
“I know I have to be ready for every single ball, every pass, every challenge. Everything has to be at 100 per cent. You cannot give any advantage to the opposition player, and that’s how I intend to approach this,” said the playmaker.
“I know this game against Man United can create legends. I know how important it is to the supporters and throughout the week I’ve been doing everything I can to prepare myself mentally for this game so I can perform well.”
