Liverpool FC striker Luis Suarez has said sorry for biting Branislav Ivanovic, both privately to the Chelsea defender and publicly after their teams faced off in a Premier League match.
Liverpool forward Luis Suarez has issued a public apology for his actions in the match against Chelsea on Sunday.
The Reds star sunk his teeth into Blues defender Branislav Ivanovic after losing the ball in the penalty area, and has also offered words of regret to the Serbian over the phone.
I’m sad for what happened this afternoon, I apologize Ivanovic and all football world for my inexcusable behaviour. I’m so sorry about it!!

I’ve just spoken to Ivanovic on the phone and I could apologise directly to him. Thanks for accepting.

Suarez has of course previously bitten an opponent before, with then PSV Eindhoven attacking midfielder Otman Bakkal the victim of his teeth when the Uruguayan played for Ajax.
The most worrying aspect of the incident is perhaps how instinctive it was.
In response to losing the ball fair and square, Suarez lost control of his emotions, and in his frustration bit his opponent.
It was no surprise therefore that Liverpool moved to dampen the situation as quickly as possible, with Suarez apologising quickly and the club too issuing a statement.
Whilst one of the best players in the world on footballing ability alone, Suarez’s dark streak is a taint on his career.
It will be up to Liverpool to decide if he is worth the hassle, or if money from his sale could be better invested in the squad elsewhere.
