Reds turn to Mo Diame…

Liverpool are this morning being linked with a 26-year-old Senegalese midfielder, who to be fair, is a far cry from the world-class talent continually being targeted by Manchester United, for instance.
The Reds, along with Newcastle, want to sign West Ham’s midfield battler Mohamed Diame, report the Mirror.
The 26-year-old has a £3.5m buy-out-clause, which Brendan Rodgers and the Anfield hierarchy apparently regard as good value for money.
Last month, Diame offered Liverpool his services, claiming that the Premier League runners up were heavily interested in signing him this summer.
“Liverpool? I can’t tell you if I will be a Liverpool player next season. But I think my name is still on their list,” he said.
“I don’t hide it, I’m ambitious and I want to join a top-six side. I am 26 years old and it’s time to take that step.”
Diame prides himself on his battling and tenacious qualities. His work-rate, to be fair, is exceptional, as his the physicality he adds to the Hammers midfield. In this respect, he seems like the perfect Sam Allardyce midfielder, but his current club are not prepared to meet his £80k-per-week contract demands.
Last term in the Premier League, Diame made 35 appearances, playing in a range of different midfield positions, scoring four goals and registering two assists.
Since the end of the season though, Liverpool have been linked with an altogether higher calibre of midfielder, as the club looked to move on from their excellent season and prepare for next term’s Champions League campaign.
The Reds made a £20m bid for Southampton’s Adam Lallana, and a also reportedly interested in the services of Bayer Leverkusen’s Emre Can, although a transfer could be difficult because Bayern Munich have inserted a buy-back-clause in his deal with the Bundesliga side.
Last summer they missed out on all their prime transfer targets, and ended up signing the likes of Iago Aspas, Luis Alberto and Victor Moses instead.
Supporters will be hoping that Diame would only be signed as a squad player, as they read seventh placed United being linked with Toni Kroos and Arjen Robben…
