The Reds do not want Agger to leave Anfield.
There is a doubt over Daniel Agger’s future at Liverpool as Barcelona have a £14.6m bid rejected for the defender, but the Dane is keen on a move to the Nou Camp, reports the Guardian.
Barca have been keeping tabs on both Agger and Chelsea centre-back David Luiz this summer, having missed out on No.1 target Thiago Silva of Paris Saint-Germain.
The Catalans want to improve their back four, but with a deal for Luiz looking unlikely the Reds star has emerged as the most probable acquisition.
The Premier League club do not want to let the 28-year-old leave Anfield and have made the Denmark international vice-captain to try and convince Agger to stay.
However, with Barca being able to offer a better chance of winning silverware, the defender is understandably tempted by a switch to Spain and manager Brendan Rodgers will be hard pressed to keep hold of the Scandinavian.
The player’s agent, Per Steffensen, has admitted that his client is aware of an offer from Catalonia and would be interested in the move.
“We are aware that Barcelona have made an offer for Daniel that Liverpool have rejected,” Steffensen said.
“Daniel has a contract with Liverpool for the next three years and it would be up to the clubs to agree a fee for his transfer in order for that to change.”
Following the retirement of Jamie Carragher at the end of last season, Rodgers has been left with a bit of a defensive headache on Merseyside, with Sebastian Coates not considered good enough to make the step up and uncertainty over the future of Martin Skrtel.
Kolo Toure has been brought in as a free transfer from Manchester City, but the boss is understandably keen to keep hold of Agger as well.
