The Reds are keen on Betrand after an injury to Luis Enrique.
The news that left-back Luis Enrique will be out until February with a knee injury has made Liverpool look to try and sign Chelsea’s Ryan Bertrand in January, reports the Telegraph.
Manager Brendan Rodgers was interested in the England international in the summer, but eventually made a loan move for Valencia’s Aly Cissokho instead.
However, first choice Enrique has now been sidelined for several months after having surgery on the Spaniard’s knee and this leaves the Reds a little short on the left side of defence.
Rodgers has doubts over the capabilities of Cissokho and opted to play youngster Jon Flanagan at left-back against Everton at the weekend.
Meanwhile Bertrand is likely to be open to a move away from Stamford Bridge, having failed to break into the first team under Jose Mourinho despite the drop in form of Ashley Cole.
When the Portuguese boss decided to drop Cole the 50-year-old opted to play Cesar Azpilicueta rather than the Englishman.
Both Cardiff City and Sunderland are also interested in the 24-year-old, but Rodgers’ connections with the Blues and the Merseyside club’s genuine top four contention makes Anfield a much more desirable location.
There is still some animosity between the two Premier League outfits however after the difficulty that occurred during the Daniel Sturridge transfer in January.
The west London club could demand around £8m for Bertrand, but the board are prepared to back Rodgers in the transfer market as the club try and break into the Champions League places for the first time since 2009.
