The Reds will start negotiations next summer.
After managing to keep Luis Suarez this summer despite several attempts by Arsenal to sign the forward, Liverpool want to settle things once and for all with a new deal.
Managing director Ian Ayre has revealed that the Reds will open contract negotiations with the 26-year-old soon – which will be a clear sign to the Gunners that they should back off.
“We sort of begin those type of discussions two years in from the end, so it’ll be the end of this season,” Ayre was quoted in the Daily Express.
“We’ll do the same with everyone and at the right time we’ll have the discussion with Luis and his advisors.”
Many still think that the north London club will try and sign Suarez once more in the January transfer window – as the Uruguayan will be an attractive prospect having not played in the Champions League and will therefore not be cup-tied.
With 30 goals for the Merseyside outfit in 2012/13, Suarez has become hot property and Real Madrid have also been linked with the striker.
The South American made the attacker’s first appearance of the new campaign on Wednesday night against Manchester United, having completed a 10-match ban for biting Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic towards the end of last term.
Although Liverpool started the season strongly, the side have suffered a dip in form of late and have not won any of their last three games – including defeats to United and Southampton.
