Liverpool have held showdown talks with Luis Suarez’s super-agent Pere Guardiola.
The Merseyside club were still hopeful that their star-striker will remain at Anfield, despite his agent telling them that Suarez is desperate to play Champions League football, according to The Daily Mail.
Pere Guardiola arrived at Liverpool’s Melwood training complex yesterday for discussions with Brendan Rodgers and managing director Ian Ayre, and discussions were said to amicable.
However, 26-year-old Suarez, who scored a huge 30 goals for Liverpool last year, still has his heart seemingly set on a move to Real Madrid. Pere Guardiola though, did not hand in an official transfer request on behalf of the player.
Arsenal recently had a £30 million bid rejected for him by Liverpool, and it is uncertain whether Suarez would be interested in a move to London when he has already stated his desire to leave England, citing intrusion from the British media as a key factor.
Suarez is due to return to pre-season on July 22, and the club would expect him to join their tour to the Far East and Australia. If they do admit defeat in their attempts to keep hold of him, the Anfield outfit would not accept anything less than £40 million for the controversial Uruguay international.
