The Reds want to sign another Spanish gem this summer…
Liverpool will bid £6m for Real Madrid’s 20-year-old striker Alvaro Morata, according to The Metro.
The move seems plausible, seeing as Brendan Rodgers was more than happy to spend £6m on young Spaniard Luis Alberto, who performed so impressively for Barcelona’s second team last season.
Morata has had a similarly impressive year.
The pacey forward scored 12 times in 17 appearances in the Spanish second division for Real Madrid’s reserve side, and he also scored twice for the first team in La Liga. To top off his break through year, Morata bagged four for the Spanish under-21 side on their way to a European Championship victory.
The player fits Liverpool’s policy of signing young, technically gifted footballers – and the Spanish leagues seem like a perfect pool from which to recruit such talent.
Morata would team up with fellow Spaniards Jose Enrique, Pepe Reina, Iago Aspas and Luis Alberto at Liverpool, which could be an extra incentive for him to risk moving to Anfield. He would likely get more playing time at Merseyside, especially if Luis Suarez does force his way out of the club.
Morata is currently stuck behind the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema and Gonzalo Higuain to play in Madrid’s attacking spots – and he may be tempted by the possibility of playing more regular first team football.
