Rodgers thinks Sturridge can be right up near the top.
There is a lot of hype around Liverpool forward Luis Suarez, but it’s Daniel Sturridge that manager Brendan Rodgers believes can be the best in Europe.
“He’s got a great touch, is very strong on his left side and his right side, he’s got super pace – once he’s away, he’s away, you’re not catching him,” the 40-year-old was quoted by ITV.
“He’s clever in his movement and his runs, he’s a good footballer; he drops into spaces, picks up the ball, sets the game, spins. He’s also got an eye for goal.
“I think he can prove to be one of the top strikers in European football.”
Sturridge is the current Premier League top-scorer with six goals in seven matches and has helped the Reds to second in the table – level on points with leaders Arsenal.
Rodgers will now have a little under two weeks to reflect on the Merseyside club’s promising start to the campaign, as the majority of the squad go away for international duty.
Sturridge will be key in England’s attempts to qualify for the World Cup next summer, as the forward is named among manager Roy Hodgson’s 23-man squad.
It’s widely thought that the 24-year-old will start in attack with Manchester United duo Wayne Rooney and Danny Welbeck, as the Three Lions need to beat both Montenegro and Poland to guarantee a place in Brazil.
With the forward in such great form however, if Sturridge transfers what the attacker has been doing at Liverpool to the international stage this is a very promising possibility.
