Jamie Carragher believes the ‘Special One’ will bring glory back to the Bridge.
Former Liverpool stalwart and current Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher thinks that bringing Jose Mourinho back as manager will ensure Chelsea win the Premier League next season.
The ex-defender retired at the end of the 2012/13 season having spent his entire career at Anfield since making his first team debut in 1997.
Now employed as a pundit Carragher’s new job is to speculate on the English top flight and with several managerial changes the 35-year-old thinks Mourinho has the edge.
“If you put me on the spot and ask me right now, ‘Who will win the league?’, then I’d pick Chelsea,” the Kop legend was quoted in the Mirror.
“I’d pick them because Mourinho is coming back, and also because they actually have a very good team – they had a really good team last season, with some fantastic players.
“I believe Mourinho could make the difference in the Premier League this season. He’s a special manager and he knows how to get results.”
With Manchester United parting ways with Sir Alex Ferguson after 27 years in charge and Manuel Pellegrini replacing the sacked Roberto Mancini at Manchester City, then all of this season’s top three have changed their managers.
However, although new United boss David Moyes has stacks of Premier League experience following 11 years with Everton, it is Mourinho who has won the trophy twice.
As for Moyes it could prove to be a difficult first campaign in charge at Old Trafford and he faces the ‘Special One’ at the Theatre of Dreams in just the second game of the season.
It’s likely to be one of the most exciting Premier League seasons since the new format began in 1993 and if Carragher predicts right, Chelsea fans will be most smitten with the return of their old idol.
