Brendan Rodgers is desperate to secure a January deal for Javier Pastore…
Liverpool will face tough competition from AC Milan when the January transfer window opens for PSG’s out of favour attacking midfielder Javier Pastore, reports talkSPORT.
Rodgers has earmarked the attacking midfielder as a priority, but the Italian side are also keen on brining the Argentine back to Serie A, where he performed so brilliantly for Palermo before a mega-money move to PSG.
Pastore’s agent as admitted that his client’s future is far from certain, and Liverpool are interested in doing business with the Parisian giants again, after purchasing Mamadou Sakho for £18m on summer transfer deadline day.
Pastore is an extremely elegant, talented attacking midfielder, but his time with PSG could be coming to an end.
“In football there are always ups and downs,” said Marcelo Simonian, the player’s agent.
“He has been happy there, but now is not the time for nostalgia. We will see what happens in the next few months.”
The 24-year-old moved to the huge spending French club from Serie A side Palermo two seasons ago for an enormous £35m fee, and lived up to his price tag, scoring 16 goals in all competitions in his debut year.
Last term though, he only managed four in the league, and has fallen down the pecking order this season, failing to make a first-team appearance in Ligue 1 since Laurent Blanc took charge.
The Gunners were linked with the playmaker in the summer, but are less interested now after they managed to snap up £42m German genius Mesut Ozil.
With Coutinho injured, Liverpool have looked far less a creative force, and Rodgers has clearly made acquiring another attacking midfielder a January priority. A deal for the 13 cap Argentine could seriously help the Reds’ challenge for the top four.
