Premier League giants are looking to invest for the future.
Liverpool have finally identified a replacement for their soon-to-be retired centre-back Jamie Carragher at Anfield next season, according to reports in the Daily Mail.
The veteran ex-England international has decided to call it a day with the Reds at the end of this campaign, making his announcement at the turn of the year.
And now new Liverpool head coach Brendan Rodgers has been forced to step up his search for a long-term replacement for Carragher at the heart of the club’s back four next season, with young Sporting Lisbon defender Tiago Ilori said to be wanted by the Northern Irishman.
Ilori, 20, has been in the Portuguese capital for the past two years, although the centre back, who can also operate in the full-back positions too, has only featured in nine games for the Lisbon giants in that time, scoring one goal in the process.
However, at a cost of just £1.2 million, the Portugal Under-20 International looks like being worth a gamble for the future by Rodgers this summer.
