Brendan Rodgers reckons Koke could be the final piece of his Liverpool jigsaw…
Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is extremely keen for his club to ambitiously move for Atletico Madrid’s impressive young midfielder Koke, reports Spanish website Fichajes.
The 21-year-old has been instrumental to Atletico’s outstanding start to the season. Diego Simeone’s side have remarkably won all eight of their matches this La Liga season, and Koke has registered six assists, which is more than any playmaker in Europe.
The youngster is a fantastic passer of a football, and like most Spanish midfielders; has brilliant technical ability that helps him retain possession in tight, difficult areas.
Due to his age, and astronomical rise, Koke would command an enormous fee which Liverpool could unlikely afford. After their brilliant start to the season, Atletico have every right to consider themselves too big a club to feel pressured into selling to Liverpool, who are not even playing in Europe this year.
Rodgers wants the midfielder to add some class and guile to the central hub of his team. With the current pairing of Lucas and Steven Gerrard, the Reds lack dynamism, mobility and intricate passing in the final third. Koke would inject all of these attributes straight into the side, and he could be the long-term replacement target for 33-year-old Gerrard.
