Prodigal Schalke midfielder Max Meyer has a £20m release clause, which Premier League giants Liverpool or Chelsea could trigger in the summer, reports German publication Bild.
Following interest in the 18-year-old wonderkid before Christmas, his Bundesliga club apparently installed the clause to make sure they receive good money for his services, should a European giant come in for him.
Meyer is comfortable across any of the attacking midfield positions, and has been given 11 starts in the league so far this season. In that time, he’s scored five goals and assisted one more, and is rated to be just as talented as Julian Draxler was when he was 18-year-sold.
Meyer is a fantastic dribbler, and prefers to play short simple passes or intricate through-balls than more ambitious longer balls.
His talent is unquestionable, but it’s unlikely that Liverpool will be able to spend as much as £20m on someone who would be unlikely to walk straight into the first team.
Chelsea are more than capable of spending this kind of money, but have an array of current attacking midfielders, and a selection of their very own talented youngsters out on loan.
