England star wants to see new faces at Anfield.
Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has urged the club to make a splash in the transfer market this summer.
The Reds finished the season strongly and were undefeated in their last eight Premier League games.
But early season inconsistency meant Brendan Rodgers’ men were unable to make a late charge for a top four spot and eventually finished 7th, 12 points behind fourth-placed Arsenal and two behind fierce rivals Everton.
The Anfied club have been linked with a host of players ahead of the the summer transfer window, including centre-backs Kurt Zouma and Raul Albiol.
Rodgers is also said to be an admirer of Wigan starlet Callum McManaman and Tottenham full-back Danny Rose, but the Northern Irishman will reportedly be handed a modest budget of just £20m.
Gerrard, 32, has warned the club they will again be left behind if they fail to invest this summer.
“We finished seventh in the league so there certainly needs to be a bit done. The preparation starts now for next year. I am sure the manager and staff are already preparing,” Gerrard is quoted as saying by the Daily Express.
“All the other teams will strengthen and we can’t afford to be left behind.
“I am sure the manager is already thinking about where he needs to strengthen the squad to make up that gap so we compete with the top four.
“It’s down to us to continue what we’ve done in the last couple of months, take that into next season and try to improve.”
